TRIPLEWIDE was formed in 2001 out of desire to play subversive pop music, but
soon realized their potential to distort goes well beyond the world of pop music. A
group whose sound ranges from alt country to post punk to just plain rocking, Triplewide released its first album “Songs
About People You Know (and wished you didn’t)” in 2003. Followed
by the four song “Xmas EP” in 2004, Triplewide is currently finishing the second full-length album entitled “The
Rage of Reason” scheduled for an early spring ’08 release.
Laura Creedle’s musical journey began on the steps of the Mayo Clinic,
where at the tender age of four she painstakingly reproduced B.B. King’s guitar “Lucille” in full color
sidewalk chalk. The following year when she finger painted the score to Beethoven’s
Ode To Joy on her bedroom wall, leading her family to invest in classical training for her which has made her develop into
a singer and guitarist extraordinaire. She has lent inimitable lead sound to
such bands as The Flinchtones, Power Snatch, Olive, and the seminal Happy Family.
Triplewide is the first band to fully use her operatic trained voice in addition to her searing fretwork on lead guitar
creating quite a disarming attack.
John Foxworth is rumored to have started his life as a large French poodle named
Max. His parents supposedly secured his human form with the help of wandering
gypsies, who asked in return that John never be seen without his trusty cowbell. John
became a pan and pots percussionist that led to the punk outfit, The Elegant Doormats.
He later joined Tulum, whose principal members joined with him and Scott Telles to form ST 37. Playing in other outfits such as Mars or Bust! (with Robert Timsbrook) and Cartoon only furthered his cowbell-laden
drummins until he was the perfect fit for the dog-friendly Triplewide. A band
that quickly took the cowbell off of his drums and put it around his neck where it belongs.
Robert McDougal's early childhood obsession with Haggis led to many trouble
times in his youth, the things he would do to obtain the meat like substance are still not talked about in polite circles. His discovery of the Rickenbacher sound in his early twenties saved him from a life
ruled by potted meat. Robert played bass with such Austin
stalwarts as Astroglide and Fchord before bringing his pulsating rhythms to Triplewide.
Still addled by all things Scottish, Robert often reminds the band that “Haggis is a very old Scottish
dish, which combines meats, spices and oatmeal to create a very rich, unusual, but none the less delicious feast.”
Bob Bechtol was repeatedly exposed to Prog Rock music in a white room with one
lone bare light bulb during his formative years. In his teens he combated such
psychological warfare with a steady diet of CBGB’s staples Television, Patti Smith and the Ramones. Forever scarred by sounds of Van Der Graff Generator, Amon Duul II and Can, Bob struggles to this day with
a Peter Hammill addiction and this dichotomous battle can be heard in his songwriting.
Starting out as the lead singer for The Elegant Doormats, Bob then formed Thanatopsis Throne with Jon (son of Rip)
Torn, a group that provided keyboards for ST37 whilst embarking on their own strange Avante-Pop career. In the nineties, Bob fronted the almost all girl band (except for Bob) Horselover Fat whose live shows
at the Austin Outhouse are fondly remembered. After a short stint in San Antonio exploring the wonders of Heavy Metal music, Bob returned
to form the sardonic pop rock band that is known as Triplewide. Bob sings, plays
rhythm guitar, and is the principal songwriter often responsible for instigating onstage antics.
Triplewide has grown as a live band over years, performing two different shows,
one quiet and one loud with a mix of musical arrangements. Triplewide can tailor
their set to the environment with over three hours of material to choose from (mostly original with a few select covers to
surprise and confuse the audience) and a sound as unique as Austin. Triplewide is the band that rocks when your sitting down and swings when you stand
up.
